Correction in the Parents Guide to the First Year Experience Calendar

Many of you may have received copies of the Parents Guide to the First Year Experience Calendar during Orientation this past summer. Please note the following important correction to the Parents Guide to the First Year Experience Calendar:

The deadline for the on-time submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) renewal to federal processor is March 11, not March 12.

Safe Spring Break Travel

The upcoming spring break provides students with some much needed relaxation time. If your student is traveling abroad, the U.S. Department of State has put together a website for students traveling abroad for spring break as well as a recent travel alert about traveling to Mexico . As your student prepares for their upcoming spring break travel, we encourage that you talk with your student about having a safe spring break.

Important Dates

March 6, 2009 Last day to apply for Spring 2009 graduation in order to receive a diploma at the May Commencement
March 7-15, 2009 Spring Break
March 23, 2009

Last day for students to resign without grade penalty by 5:00 p.m. Last day to change grade option from P/F to A-F, 5:00 p.m.

April 17, 2009 Deadline for requesting rescheduling of final examinations that conflict or constitute a third exam in 24 hours.
May 1, 2009

Last day to apply for Course Withdrawal

May 8-13, 2009 Final Examinations
May 15, 2009 University Commencement Ceremonies for Undergraduates and Graduates
May 16, 2009 Individual College and Departmental Ceremonies

Spring Commencement Information

Congratulations to the parents and family members of our Spring 2009 graduates! Graduation ceremonies will be taking place on May 15 and 16, 2009 for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Spring Commencement Housing

Need a place to stay for graduation? Student Programs Conference and Guest Services provides accommodations for families and guests of graduates in the Virginia Tech residence halls.

Reservations will be available beginning Monday, March 9, at 8:00 a.m. They will continue to be accepted until Friday, April 24, or until available space is filled.

Student Success Resources

Did your student struggle with some of their courses last semester ? Do they want to learn new skills to assist them with their academic endeavors? The Center for Academic Enrichment and Excellence offers several programs and workshops for students at all levels. In addition to offering free individual and small group tutoring for select 1000 and 2000 level courses, CAEE also offers several workshops on a variety of topics through the Seminar Series on Academic Success. The hour-long free seminars, featuring topics ranging from Time Management to Tackling your Textbooks and Lecture Notes, are offered throughout the Spring semester.
